Our Advantages

What Makes Pendulyn Worth Choosing

A dedicated clock workshop is not common. Here is what that dedication looks like in practice — in our methods, our documentation and the service terms we hold ourselves to.

Six Reasons Owners Choose Pendulyn

Written Condition Notes

Every clock leaves with a document describing what was found and what was done. No verbal-only summaries.

Home Visit for Final Setting

Movement service clients in the Kinta Valley receive a home visit to set the beat in the room where the clock stands.

24-Month Coverage

Service-related faults that appear within 24 months are addressed without additional charge. This is a written commitment.

Fixed Programme Pricing

All three programmes carry a published price. No hourly variable rate, no post-work invoice surprises.

Measurable Outcomes

Mainspring work includes a power reserve chart — figures measured before and after, so results are not just felt but recorded.

Photographic Heritage Record

Longcase programme clients receive a photographic record of the movement — a document as permanent as the clock itself.

Expertise

Bench Knowledge That Comes from Years, Not Manuals

The difference between a clock that runs for another decade and one that needs attention again in eighteen months is often not in the parts used but in how thoroughly the movement was read before being reassembled. Our team has handled movements from the late nineteenth century to mid-twentieth-century German platform escapements, from pendulum regulators to French eight-day carriage clocks.

That range of exposure matters when assessing a piece that may not match the standard textbook descriptions — and most old clocks, once opened, do not.

  • Experience across mantel, wall, carriage and longcase movements
  • Familiarity with German, French and English clock traditions
  • Strike, chime and rack-and-snail train experience
  • Longcase and regulator case joinery assessment included
  • Ultrasonic cleaning bath for all dismantled parts
  • Magnification inspection of every pivot and bush
  • Power reserve testing rig for mainspring and barrel work
  • Regulated timing comparison before final handover

Equipment

Tools Suited to the Work

Clock movements are cleaned ultrasonically before reassembly. Pivot wear is assessed under a bench microscope. Mainspring power reserve is measured on a test rig, not estimated by feel. Timing is checked on a regulated comparison bench before a clock is returned.

These are not unusual tools in a well-equipped horological workshop. What is perhaps less common is their consistent use across every programme, rather than as optional add-ons.

Client Communication

Straightforward at Every Stage

We respond to every written enquiry personally, typically within one to two working days. When a clock arrives, we acknowledge receipt. When the assessment is complete, we contact the owner with a written summary. When the work is done, we confirm before collection or return.

There are no automated messages, no queuing systems and no situation where an owner is unsure where their clock is in the process.

  • Personal response to every enquiry — no automated replies
  • Receipt acknowledgement when a clock arrives at the bench
  • Written assessment summary before work proceeds
  • Completion notification before collection or delivery

Distinctive Features

What You Will Not Find Elsewhere

The Retired Spring Returned

When we replace a mainspring, the original spring is cleaned, labelled with the clock's details and returned to the owner in a labelled envelope. Owners who want a record of what was in their clock receive one. This is not standard practice elsewhere.

A Decade Maintenance Calendar

Heritage Longcase Programme clients receive a written maintenance calendar covering the coming ten years — service intervals, what to watch for, and when to bring the clock back. A practical document, not a marketing brochure.

Site Visits Within Perak

For longcase and regulator work, we come to the clock. It does not travel to us. Two site visits are included: one for assessment, one for levelling and rate-check once the movement has been returned. This protects old cases from unnecessary handling.

Assessment Before Commitment

We tell an owner what we have found before any programme begins. If the scope or cost of the work changes after assessment, we discuss it before proceeding. No owner receives an invoice that differs from what was agreed.

Let the Work Begin with a Conversation

Describe your clock to us — what it is, how old you believe it to be, and what fault you have noticed. We will advise the right programme and confirm the price before anything moves to the bench.
